The history of Nelson Brothers Whiskey takes us back to the pursuit of the American dream by Charles Nelson, who embarked on a fresh start in Nashville. Charles initially opened a grocery store where three best-selling products—coffee, meat, and whiskey—flourished. As the demand for his whiskey outgrew the supply, Charles made a pivotal decision. He acquired the distillery responsible for producing his whiskey in Greenbrier, Tennessee, and secured a patent for improved distillation methods.

Through this journey, Charles Nelson not only played a pivotal role in popularizing Tennessee whiskey but also became a household name. One of his most celebrated creations, Belle Meade Bourbon, was one of around 30 different labels he produced in the late 1800s. Unlike most of his other products, Belle Meade Bourbon was produced in collaboration with Nashville's Sperry Wade & Company, a third party that contracted Nelson's Green Brier Distillery to market bourbon, rye, corn, and Tennessee whiskies under the Belle Meade brand.

Belle Meade Bourbon swiftly gained acclaim upon its market debut in 1878, renowned for its exceptional quality and value. Even long after the end of Prohibition, the legacy endured, and it was the dedication of Charlie and Andy Nelson, recent college graduates, that revitalized the family business and resurrected the once-prominent Nelson's Green Brier Distillery. Their unwavering determination overcame numerous obstacles, including investor skepticism, and breathed new life into the family business.
