Benromach Single Malt 40-Year-Old is a testament to the rich tradition of crafting authentic Speyside single malts at the Benromach Distillery, which has been doing so in a unique manner since 1898. In the decades prior to the 1960s, Speyside distilleries often used local peat to fire their kilns when coal supplies were low, resulting in a finely balanced single malt with a subtle hint of smokiness. Sadly, this tradition waned with the commercialization of malting processes. However, in 1993, when Gordon & Macphail acquired the distillery, they made it their mission to revive this traditional style. To this day, they continue to use pure Chapeltown Springs water sourced from the Romach Hills, just two miles from the distillery. Their team benefits from the expertise of three master distillers and follows a meticulous process. Maturation is achieved using first-fill sherry casks from William and Humbert in Spain, as well as new oak casks from Antonio Paez Lobato. The Benromach range is further enriched by the remarkable private collection of beautifully aged single malts from the Urquharts of Elgin family, ensuring that the brand remains diverse and dedicated to handcrafted production.
