Adding Rhône wine was common practice in 19th-century Bordeaux, and because it crosses appellations today the wine is labelled Vin de France and carries a lot number in place of a vintage. 2023 brought a warm, at times humid summer to Margaux, and Palmer gave this blend an unusually long élevage: 10 months in French oak barrels, then 17 more in large 30-hectolitre casks, with bottling on December 18, 2025. CEO Thomas Duroux calls it \"the work of time.\" Only around 5,000 bottles of the Historical are made, and not every year.
