Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Le Clavoillon Chardonnay 2022

$484.99 USD

Size

Domaine Leflaive, a prestigious family estate rooted in Puligny-Montrachet since 1717, is renowned for producing some of Burgundy's finest white wines. The Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Le Clavoillon Chardonnay 2022 exemplifies this legacy of excellence. With a rich history in the region, the Leflaive family controls over 85% of the Clavoillon climat, ensuring the utmost care and precision in the vineyard and cellar.

The vineyard, located just north of the famous Les Pucelles premier cru, was originally planted with Pinot Noir before the devastation of phylloxera, and was replanted with Chardonnay in the early 20th century. The 2022 vintage, despite a scorching summer, turned out to be a pleasant surprise, producing an exceptional wine with both excellent quantity and quality. The vines adapted beautifully to the weather conditions, ensuring an optimistic outlook for this vintage.

The wine is crafted with meticulous care, beginning with long, gentle pneumatic pressing, followed by decanting and fermentation in oak casks. It is aged for 12 months in cask, with a final 6 months in tank, offering a wine of precision and complexity.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: The wine presents a brilliant golden-yellow hue, indicative of its depth and richness.

Nose: The bouquet is elegant and layered, offering aromas of white flowers, honeysuckle, and lemon zest, with a subtle hint of vanilla and oak spice from the aging in oak barrels. The 2022 vintage showcases the classic minerality of Puligny-Montrachet, with faint notes of wet stone and a whisper of almond.

Palate: On the palate, the wine is vibrant and fresh, with a finely honed acidity that balances its rich texture. Flavors of green apple, citrus zest, and stone fruits are accompanied by delicate hints of white peach and a touch of buttery brioche, creating a harmonious and complex mouthfeel. The oak influence is subtly integrated, lending notes of spice and toast, without overpowering the purity of the fruit.

Finish: The finish is long, with lingering flavors of minerality, lemon curd, and a touch of hazelnut, leaving a clean, refreshing aftertaste that speaks to the wine’s finesse and aging potential.
