Boann Distillery’s Madeira Cask Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is a harmonious fusion of tradition and innovation, showcasing the vibrant character of Irish whiskey and the unique influence of Madeira’s winemaking heritage. This expression begins its life in heavily charred ex-Bourbon barrels from Kentucky’s Brown-Forman, imparting a classic base of vanilla and honey. It is then transferred to vintage Madeira casks from Justino’s, a prestigious house in Madeira. These casks, previously used to age wines made from Tinta Negro, Boal, and Sercial grapes, bring layers of complexity. The casks underwent Madeira’s traditional canteiro process, where wine ages in warm conditions, reminiscent of historic sea voyages, adding depth and nuance to the whiskey.
Crafted from a locally grown mixed mash bill of malted barley, unmalted barley, oats, and rye, this whiskey encapsulates the terroir of Ireland and the maritime influence of Madeira.
