Brothers of the Leaf Small Batch Straight Rye Whiskey is a bold yet refined expression born from the marriage of high-rye Indiana whiskey and custom-toasted American white oak casks, crafted by the artisans at Kelvin Cooperage in Louisville, Kentucky. Distilled from a robust mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley, this straight rye is already full of punchy spice and character. The finishing in toasted oak—not charred—enhances the whiskey with sweet, rounded notes of vanilla, caramel, and baked fruit, bringing complexity without overwhelming the rye’s vibrant edge. Bottled at a powerful 112 proof, it delivers a flavor experience that’s rich, warm, and unapologetically layered.

Tasting Notes

Appearance:
Deep amber with glints of copper and gold, a sign of both maturity and intensity.

Nose (Aroma):
Inviting and layered. Toasted vanilla, baking spices, and caramelized sugar lead the way, followed by undertones of crisp apple, nutmeg, and lightly smoked oak. A hint of orange zest adds brightness to the depth.

Palate (Taste):
Full-bodied and bold with classic rye peppery spice upfront, evolving into warm waves of toffee, butterscotch, and baked apple pie. The toasted oak imparts a soft, woody sweetness with notes of graham cracker, maple, and cinnamon, rounding out the punchy rye grain.

Finish:
Long and warming. A tapering spice gives way to lingering flavors of vanilla bean, oak toast, and a gentle echo of dried fruit. The high proof leaves a pleasant heat without overwhelming the complexity.
