Il Poggione, the historic Brunello di Montalcino estate in the hills of southern Tuscany, carries its winemaking heritage into the still with this Grappa Riserva. Distilled from the estate's grape pomace and rested in wood for four years, it earns its Riserva designation the patient way, trading the sharp edges of young grappa for the depth of a true after-dinner spirit. It reaches the US through Terlato Wines International.
Four years in cask deepen the spirit to a burnished amber and layer dried apricot, honey, and toasted hazelnut over the grape-skin aromatics at its core. The palate is warm and rounded, with vanilla, raisin, and candied orange peel carried on gentle oak spice into a long, quietly sweet finish.
Barrel-aged grappa remains a rarity on American shelves, which makes this Riserva both a distinctive gift and a worthy addition to any Italian spirits collection.
