Mortlach Single Malt Scotch Midnight Malt 30 Year Old is a distinguished expression that showcases the iconic Mortlach character, known for its robust and meaty profile, in a rare and aged form. This impressive Scotch whisky stands out in the Speyside region, traditionally known for its light and fruity aromas. The subtitle "Midnight Malt" hints at the dark and complex nature of this 30-year-old beauty. Maturing initially in refill American oak and European oak, it then undergoes a unique finishing process in three distinct cask types: Bordeaux wine, Calvados, and Guatemalan rum. This extraordinary trio of cask influences results in a limited release of only 350 bottles, each offering a complex symphony of flavors.

Tasting Notes

The Midnight Malt opens with an enticing aroma that hints at the depth within. Peppery spice greets the senses, followed by the delicate fragrance of orchard fruits. As you delve deeper, the chocolate notes emerge, adding richness and complexity to the bouquet. On the palate, the whisky unfolds in layers. The peppery spice takes center stage, complemented by the sweet and fruity character of orchard fruits. The influence of Bordeaux wine casks imparts a subtle vinous quality, while the Calvados adds a touch of apple and brandy notes. The finishing touch of Guatemalan rum casks introduces a layer of sweetness and exotic complexity. The result is a symphony of flavors that evolve with each sip, creating a memorable and contemplative tasting experience.
