Schrader "WH" Cabernet Sauvignon 2023, a small-lot, single-vineyard Cabernet from Wappo Hill in the Stags Leap District. 98 points, Jeb Dunnuck.
Schrader's WH comes from Wappo Hill Vineyard in the northern Stags Leap District, first planted in 1969, and the 2023 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Clone 685, aged in all-new Darnajou and Taransaud French oak by winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. 2023 gave Napa its longest growing season in more than a decade, with mild, steady temperatures and extended hang time, and Brown expects it to rank among the best Schrader vintages ever bottled. Jeb Dunnuck (98 points) found red and black fruits, crushed stone and cedar pencil, calling it "heavenly on the palate, with full-bodied richness," and noted that only about 1,680 cases were made. He says it is brilliant today yet will cruise for two decades or more, while James Suckling (96 points) calls it drinkable now and best from 2030. 15.5% ABV, 750ml.
