Three consecutive Stagg Jr. batches — 25B at 126.9 proof, 25C at 125.6 and 25D at 129.2 — uncut, unfiltered, from the same Buffalo Trace rickhouses. Batch-to-batch variation is the whole point of Stagg, and this is the only way to taste it in one sitting.

A flight for the barrel-proof crowd.

Tasting Notes

Color: All three are dark, viscous mahogany.

Nose: 25B: dark cherry, brown sugar and oak. 25C: caramel, vanilla and dried fruit. 25D: cinnamon, molasses and toasted wood.

Palate: Uncut, unfiltered barrel-proof bourbon in three consecutive batches — each is massive, sweet and oaky, but the proof and balance shift batch to batch: 25B leans fruit, 25C leans caramel, 25D leans spice.

Finish: Very long, hot and sweet on all three; the differences show most in the finish.
