Stranahan's Sherry Cask Colorado Whiskey is an American single malt from Denver, made from 100% malted barley and Rocky Mountain water, matured in new charred American oak and then finished in Oloroso sherry casks from Andalucía, Spain. Stranahan's is one of the pioneers of American single malt, and the Sherry Cask is the expression that shows how well the distillery's fruity, malty spirit takes to sherry wood.
The nose is raisin, fig and dark chocolate over the house notes of toffee and barley sugar. On the palate it is rich and rounded: dried cherry, orange peel, baking spice and a nutty Oloroso depth, with a long finish of cocoa and gentle oak. Drink it neat or with a single cube; it also makes an excellent Boulevardier.
If you enjoy sherried Speyside malts such as GlenDronach or Aberlour, or Highland Park, the Sherry Cask is the easiest way into the American single malt category.

Why Liquor Geeks recommends it
This is an American single malt from Denver, made from 100% malted barley and Rocky Mountain water, matured in new charred American oak and then finished in Oloroso sherry casks from Andalucía, Spain. Stranahan's is one of the pioneers of the American single malt category, and this expression shows how naturally the distillery's fruity, malty spirit takes to sherry wood. Expect raisin, fig and dark chocolate on the nose over the house notes of toffee and barley sugar. The palate is rich and rounded, with dried cherry, orange peel, baking spice and a nutty Oloroso depth, and it closes long on cocoa and gentle oak. It suits the drinker who already loves sherried malts and wants an easy first step into American single malt, and it gives collectors a clear view of where the category is heading. We carry it because it shows sherry influence over a new-oak base with real clarity, and it is just as good sipped neat from a tulip glass as it is stirred into a Boulevardier.
Pairs well with
- Dark chocolate torte — The whiskey's dark chocolate nose and cocoa finish match the dessert's bittersweet richness.
- Aged cheese with dried figs — The nutty Oloroso depth and fig notes echo the cheese board's savory and fruity sides.
- Fireside after-dinner sipping — The rich, rounded palate and long cocoa-and-oak finish reward a slow pour at the end of the evening.
