Château Margaux 2010, First Growth Bordeaux from a celebrated vintage.
The 2010 grand vin is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 1.5% Cabernet Franc and 1.5% Petit Verdot, a Cabernet share matched only by 2006, and just 38% of the crop made the final blend. Drought set in from late June through harvest, but the summer stayed cooler than 2009, and cool nights kept acidity bright while the Cabernet ripened slowly and fully. Estate director Paul Pontallier said the wine carried even more tannin than 2005, 2000 or 1996. Robert Parker of The Wine Advocate (99 points) calls it "a wine of considerable nobility," and Jeb Dunnuck (98 points) finds it "as classic and regal as Margaux gets." Dunnuck places the drinking window at 2026 to 2057, so it is just entering its prime with decades still ahead. 13.5% ABV, 750ml.
