Deanston 17 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Finished in Orange Wine Casks
Deanston 17 Year Old Finished in Orange Wine Casks is a limited Highland single malt from the Deanston distillery in Doune, Scotland — a former 18th-century cotton mill on the River Teith that still generates its own power from the river's flow. After long maturation, this 17-year-old whisky is finished in casks that previously held orange wine, the amber-hued style made by fermenting white grapes with extended skin contact, lending the malt an unusual vinous character rarely seen in Scotch.
Deanston's honeyed, malty house spirit takes on layers of candied orange peel, apricot and marmalade from the wine casks, carried on a waxy, gently floral texture. Toasted oak and ginger spice build through the mid-palate before a long finish of bitter orange, heather honey and drying oak.
With its uncommon cask finish and 17 years of age, this is a natural pick for the Scotch collector's shelf or a standout gift for the whisky drinker who has tried everything — pair it with other Highland single malts and limited-release Scotch whiskies from the Liquor Geeks collection.
