From the historic slopes at the foot of Hermitage, M. Chapoutier’s “Les Greffieux” 2013 is a distinguished single-vineyard Syrah that captures both the power and finesse of this legendary appellation. Crafted under the direction of Michel Chapoutier, this wine reflects the estate’s deep respect for terroir and meticulous winemaking philosophy.

The Greffieux parcel, with its glacial alluvial soils of clay and rounded stones, produces wines of structure, aromatic depth, and elegance. The 2013 vintage shows a classic profile—firm yet refined—offering a balance between intensity, freshness, and evolving complexity.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Crimson with subtle vermilion highlights, maintaining a steady garnet tone.

Aroma: Deep and expressive, revealing layers of small black fruits, ink, and cracked black pepper. Notes of graphite and pencil lead add mineral precision, while hints of mocha, sweet spices, and delicate floral tones (peony) emerge with aeration.

Palate: Full-bodied and fresh on entry, with a structured core. Tannins are present and assertive yet finely integrated, supporting flavors of blackcurrant, blackberry, and black licorice. Subtle savory and earthy nuances enhance complexity, while a touch of oak contributes gentle toastiness.

Finish: Long and persistent, with lingering floral and spicy notes, refined tannic grip, and a polished, slightly smoky character.
