Octomore Edition 16.3 Single Malt Scotch – Super Heavily Peated – 5 Year – 123.2 Proof

This is Islay peat at full volume, with a farm-to-glass story behind it. Bruichladdich distilled this 5-year-old single malt from 100% Islay-grown Concerto barley harvested at Octomore Farm, then matured it entirely on the island in first-fill bourbon and second-fill wine casks. It is bottled at 123.2 proof, unchill-filtered and without coloring, so what you taste is the spirit and the wood with nothing smoothed over. Expect massive smoke with iodine, smoked bacon and sea spray. The palate is oily, with charred oak, burnt toffee, lemon zest and salted caramel, and the finish runs long and dry on peat ash, brine and pepper. It is not a gentle first step into peated whisky. It suits the drinker who already loves smoky Islay malts and the collector following this limited series edition by edition. We carry it because few bottles make provenance this tangible, and because there is real refinement beneath the intensity, especially once a few drops of water draw out sweeter orchard fruit.
