Octomore 16.1 is the latest chapter in Bruichladdich's boundary-pushing Octomore series, the Islay distillery's ongoing experiment in super heavy peating. Released as a limited edition and aged five years, 16.1 carries the series' signature paradox — some of the most heavily peated spirit in Scotland, bottled young and unapologetically intense.
Fierce on paper, graceful in the glass. Smoke arrives in waves of bonfire embers, sea air, and charred oak, but underneath sits a surprisingly bright core of vanilla, honeyed malt, and lemon zest. The peat never crowds out the sweetness; it frames it, building toward a long, ashy, saline finish that keeps pulling you back for another sip.
