Virginia Distillery Co. is based in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Lovingston, Virginia, where the cool mountain climate and dramatic temperature swings accelerate maturation and deepen flavor development. This expression begins as a traditionally malted barley whiskey aged in virgin American oak before being transferred into cider casks for finishing. The cider cask influence layers orchard fruit character — baked apple, pear, and a gentle tartness — on top of the malt-driven foundation without overwhelming it. The result is an American Single Malt that feels both rooted in Scotch whisky tradition and distinctly Virginian in character.
Best enjoyed neat or with a small splash of water to open up the orchard and malt notes. The Cider Cask Reserve also works well in spirit-forward stirred cocktails where the fruit finish can complement vermouth and bitters.
